The Japanese way

Wash first. Then soak.
Then reset.

In a Japanese bathroom the tub is never for washing. You shower and scrub on a low stool in a waterproof washing area, then step into clean, deep, hot water just to soak. The toilet has its own room, with a WASHLET. We bring that sequence, and the calm it creates, into European homes.

Japanese washing area with stools and hand showers洗

Wash

A tiled washing area with hand shower, stool and floor drain, so water can go everywhere.

Square Japanese wooden bathtub with lid浸

Soak

A short, deep tub that covers your shoulders, in hinoki cypress, enamelled steel or acrylic.

Light wooden sauna bench and heater整

Reset

Sauna, cold shower, rest. In Japanese, the clear feeling afterwards is called totonou.

Japanese craftsmanship

Built by Japanese engineers.
Down to the last millimetre.

A Japanese bathroom only feels right when the details are right: the slope to the drain, the seal behind the tiles, the line of every joint. That is why your project is led by a Japanese engineer and carried out by Japanese technicians, from the first survey to the day you take your first bath.

Where local rules require certified installers, for example for electrical or gas connections, our Japanese team works with licensed local partners and checks their work.

  1. 一

    Japanese engineers, start to finish

A Japanese engineer plans your project and stays responsible until handover. Japanese technicians do the work on site, with no hand-offs to anonymous subcontractors.

  2. 二

    Waterproofing tested with water

Every wet room and tub area is filled and flood-tested for 24 hours before a single tile goes on.

  3. 三

    Every hidden layer photographed

Pipes, membranes and fixings are photographed before they disappear behind the tiles. You receive the full record at handover.

  4. 四

    Japanese finishing standards

Slopes, grout lines and silicone joints checked to the millimetre, and the site left clean at the end of every day.

TOTO WASHLET

The upgrade you will notice every single day.

Warm-water cleansing, a heated seat and quiet automatic functions; depending on the model, even an automatic lid and deodoriser. Many projects start here, because it is the fastest way to feel a Japanese bathroom at home.

What we check before installation

  1. 1

A grounded 230 V socket within reach of the toilet. Dutch toilet rooms often have none, so our electrician adds one.

  2. 2

A cold-water connection for the seat, usually via a small T-valve on the cistern supply.

  3. 3

The shape and fixing holes of your toilet bowl, or a wall-hung frame if we replace the toilet.

  4. 4

In Spain: if your bathroom has a bidet, a WASHLET can take over its job and free up the space.

A seat retrofit usually takes half a day when the socket is already there.

Ofuro & wet room

Deep, hot, quiet water.

Japanese tubs are shorter and deeper than European ones, so they fit small bathrooms and still cover your shoulders. Around the tub we build a fully waterproofed washing area with a floor drain.

  • Hinoki cypress tub

Handcrafted from fragrant Japanese cypress. It needs regular airing and care, and we explain how.

  • Enamel or acrylic deep tub

Easy to maintain, with TOTO fittings and a thermostatic mixer.

  • Wet-room washing area

Sloped floor, waterproof membrane, low stool and hand shower, separated by glass.

Two things we always calculate: the weight of a filled tub on your floor, and whether your boiler or water heater can fill it with hot water.

Sauna

Heat, cold, rest. At home.

From a compact cabin for two in a spare room to a barrel sauna in the garden. We plan the heater, ventilation and a cold shower nearby, because the reset happens after the heat.

Warm-lit wooden sauna with benches

Indoor cabin

Fits a spare room, an attic or a large bathroom. Spruce, thermowood or hinoki interior.

Light wooden sauna bench and heater

Bathroom sauna

A glass-fronted sauna next to your shower, sharing waterproofing and drainage.

Inside a barrel sauna with a round window

Garden barrel sauna

Delivered pre-built or assembled on site, with a wood-fired or electric heater.

Small heaters run on a normal 230 V circuit; larger ones may need a three-phase (400 V) connection. We check this first.

Period & vintage buildings

Old buildings, new water.

Many of our clients live in buildings with history: Amsterdam canal houses, 1920s Amsterdam School blocks, modernist fincas in Barcelona's Eixample, Madrid's Salamanca district or Valencia's Ruzafa. They are beautiful, and they need a careful plan.

  • Floors & structure

Timber beams and old slabs: a structural check before a deep tub or sauna goes in.

  • Getting it inside

Steep Dutch stairs or no lift? A tub can come in through the window with the hoisting beam or a lift, or in sections.

  • Pipes & ventilation

We replace old drains and supply pipes and add ventilation, so moisture never reaches the old brickwork.

  • Permits & neighbours

Approval from the VvE or comunidad de propietarios, and municipal permits for listed buildings (monument / edificio catalogado).

FAQ

Questions we often hear

Who actually does the work?

Japanese engineers and technicians. A Japanese engineer leads your project from survey to handover, and our Japanese technicians carry out the installation. Certified connections such as electricity are made together with licensed local partners.

Do you work in rented homes?

Yes, with the landlord's written permission. A WASHLET seat can be removed and the original seat refitted when you move out.

Where do you work?

In the Netherlands: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and surroundings. In Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and surroundings. Other areas on request.

Will a WASHLET fit my toilet?

Most standard European floor-standing and wall-hung bowls can take a WASHLET seat. We confirm it from a few photos and measurements before anything is ordered.

Can I buy only the products?

We focus on design and installation, so products are supplied as part of a project.

How long does it take?

A WASHLET retrofit: about half a day. An indoor sauna cabin: one to three days. A full Japanese bathroom: usually three to six weeks on site, plus time for permits.

Do you only use TOTO?

TOTO is our first choice for toilets, WASHLET seats and fittings. For hinoki tubs and saunas we work with specialist makers.
